Economic Development/ Small Business

I advocate and believe that small businesses are the backbone of Mecklenburg County. As a small business owner, I know the importance of utilizing resources provided by the county. I have assisted several businesses in getting certified with the Minority, Women and Small Business Enterprise (MWSBE) program, and other certifications such as HUB Certified, and DBE Certification.

The support of small businesses in our community provides employment opportunities for residents and contributing to economic growth. Small businesses often prioritize community engagement and support. Owners and employees are more likely to be involved in local events, sponsor community initiatives, and donate to local causes. This involvement creates a sense of belonging and unity within Mecklenburg County, strengthening the social fabric.

Small businesses have an understanding of the specific needs and preferences of the local population. They can tailor their products and services, accordingly, enhancing customer satisfaction. This personalized approach fosters a loyal customer base and promotes repeat business, further benefiting the community. In addition, small businesses frequently utilize local suppliers and services, establishing a network of mutual support within the county.

This network bolsters economic sustainability and resilience, as dollars circulate within the community, benefiting various sectors and creating a ripple effect of economic growth. Furthermore, small businesses are often the most flexible and innovative. They can quickly adapt to changing market demands, experiment with new ideas, and introduce fresh products or services. This innovation contributes to a diverse marketplace, enriching the consumer experience and stimulating further economic development.

Community Safety

Community safety in Mecklenburg County is a paramount concern to me. As a former Police Officer and Detective for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, I have seen the best and the worst parts of society. To improve the quality of life for all residents, we must a take comprehensive approach aimed at protecting residents and fostering a secure environment. Law enforcement agencies, community programs, and collaborative initiatives to enhance safety. These efforts encompass crime prevention, emergency response planning, public education, and engagement with local neighborhoods to address unique challenges and promote a sense of safety and well-being for all residents.

We must engage with local organizations and collaborate with neighbors to address safety concerns and work together on initiatives that promote a safer environment. I support crime prevention programs, such as neighborhood watch groups, where residents can share information and work collectively to deter criminal activities. I will advocate for funding and resources for law enforcement, emergency services, and community programs that address the root causes of crime and support vulnerable communities.

Education

Education holds importance in the community for a multitude of reasons, serving as a cornerstone for individual growth, societal progress, and economic development. I believe every child deserves a high-quality education. I support schools incorporating trades and skill training into learning plans to give scholars alternative options to education. Education empowers individuals by providing knowledge and skills necessary for personal and professional development. It equips people with the ability to critically analyze information, make informed decisions, and access a broad range of opportunities.

A well-educated community contributes to economic prosperity. Education enhances employability and earning potential, leading to higher incomes and improved living standards. It also fosters entrepreneurship, innovation, and a skilled workforce essential for economic growth. An educated community participates in civic and political processes. Education cultivates critical thinking, informed citizenship, and an understanding of democratic principles, encouraging active involvement in community and government affairs.
